An AISI 420F cold drawn bar contains chromium (13%) with molybdenum, manganese, sulfur, phosphorus, silicon, and carbon. These bars are ubiquitous in industrial fields – from pump shafts and gears to tools and instruments. Other prominent uses of this machinable alloy include automotive, appliances, construction, industrial equipment, and pipelines.
Adherence to strict dimensional tolerances is a crucial metric of quality. Manufacturers commonly use H7 tolerance for a 420F stainless steel shaft. It follows a range of +0.000 mm to +0.025 mm. For example, if the diameter, length, etc., is less than 3mm, the tolerance mentioned under Class H7 is 0 to -0.010. It gets specified corresponding to the distance to the opposing side.
