Stainless steel is used to produce various products and is available in various grades. 304 is one such grade. Sheets made with the low carbon version of this grade are known as Stainless Steel 304L Sheet. They are one of the most common and versatile 18-8 austenitic grades.
Stainless Steel 304L Plate is resistant to corrosion and is used for a wide range of applications. ASTM A240 Type 304L has nitrogen added to it in trace amounts which help it to maintain the mechanical properties of 304. SA240 304L resists atmospheric corrosion, reducing and oxidizing the environment. In welded condition, these 304L Stainless Steel Sheets also resist intergranular corrosion.
ASTM A240 304L also displays excellent toughness and strength in cryogenic temperature. In the annealed condition this 304L Stainless Steel Coil is non-magnetic. However cold working and welding can make 304L Stainless Steel Strip magnetic. A conventional welding process can be used to weld the SS 304L Shim.

Applications such as medical, food and processing, pharmaceutical, power generations, pulp and paper, and chemical use Stainless Steel 304L Clad Plate. The high chromium content of A240 Tp304L Flat Sheet displays resistance to oxidizing solutions such as nitric acid up to 176 degrees C. 304L 2B Flat Shim can also resist organic acids such as acetic acid.
CRES 304L Rolling Plate can also operate successfully in caustic solutions that are free of chlorides and fluorides. One of the drawbacks of SA 240 GR 304L Strips is that they do not perform well in a sulfuric acid environment. Moreover, DIN 1.4307 Coil Sheet is not recommended in the marine environment.
304L SS Rolling Sheets have a hot forming working temperature of 1652 degrees F to 2102 degrees F. whereas the Cold rolled UNS S30403 Plate are said to be ductile and magnetic in nature. Cold forming makes these 1.4307 Stainless Steel Shim Stock strong and hard.
AISI 304L Hot rolled Plates do not require post weld heat treatment and can be used directly. SA 240 304L Polished Plate is subjected to chip breaking and work hardening during deformation.
