Product Introduction

Application areas: MONEL 405 is used in the same industries as Alloy 400. Both alloys are widely used in the chemical, pollution control and marine industries. This enhanced machined version of Alloy 400 is designed to be machined using automated equipment. Application areas include threaded machine products, water meter and valve seat components, pipe fittings and fasteners.

Corrosion Resistance: MONEL 405 exhibits similar corrosion resistance to Alloy 400. Both alloys resist corrosion in many reducing media. Like Alloy 400, Alloy 405 is one of the few alloys that can be used in contact with fluorine, hydrofluoric acid, hydrofluoric acid or its derivatives. In hydrofluoric acid, the alloy exhibits excellent corrosion resistance even at various concentrations below the boiling point. Alloy 405 is also resistant to many forms of sulfuric and hydrochloric acids under reducing conditions. Excellent corrosion resistance in seawater.

Processing and heat treatment: MONEL 405 is specially designed to improve machining performance. It is recommended to use automatic threading machines for processing. Due to the increased sulfur content, the nickel-copper sulfide formed aids in machining and acts as a chip cutter. These inclusions may have an impact on the surface finish, resulting in a slightly rougher surface than standard Alloy 400. MONEL 405 can be formed and heat treated using the same processes as Alloy 400. However, it is not recommended for blacksmithing.
