GH3128 Alloy

GH3128 is a Ni-Cr based solid solution strengthened deformation high temperature alloy, with a service temperature below 950℃. 16% W (W+ Mo) is added to the alloy for solid solution strengthening, and boron, cerium and zirconium are added to purify and strengthen the grain boundaries. The alloy has high plasticity, high endurance and creep strength, as well as good process performance such as oxidation resistance, stamping and welding. Its comprehensive performance is better than similar nickel-based solid solution strengthened alloys such as GH3044 and GH3536. It is suitable for making parts such as combustion chamber flame tubes and afterburner housings of aircraft engines that work for a long time at 950℃.

Manufacturing Process

1. Melting
The process begins by melting high-purity raw materials in an electric arc furnace or induction furnace. The molten metal is then refined to remove impurities and achieve the desired chemical composition.

2. Casting
After refining, the alloy is cast into ingots. These ingots are usually subjected to a homogenization heat treatment to eliminate segregation and improve homogeneity.

3. Forging
The ingots are then hot forged at temperatures above 1100°C to achieve the desired shape and grain structure. This step is critical as it refines the microstructure and improves the mechanical properties of the alloy.

4. Hot Rolling
After forging, the material is hot rolled to reduce the thickness and achieve the final dimensions of the bar. This process also enhances the directionality of the alloy.

5. Annealing
To relieve internal stresses and improve ductility, the rolled bars are annealed at temperatures around 900-950°C. This step ensures that the material is ready for final processing and use.

6. Finishing
The final step is to cut the bar to the required length and apply any necessary surface treatment. This may include grinding, polishing or coating to protect against environmental factors
