ASTM B407 UNS N08810 Nickel alloy welded pipe for power generation

ASTM B407 UNS N08810 tubing is a nickel-iron-chromium alloy widely used in power generation due to its high strength and excellent resistance to high-temperature oxidation, carburization, and corrosion, including chloride-ion stress corrosion cracking. While the standard primarily covers seamless tubing, UNS N08810 alloy is an Incoloy 800H material known for its excellent fabrication properties and suitability for high-temperature applications such as steam generators, nuclear reactor components, and heat exchangers.

What is the difference between N08810 and N08811?

It is important to note that the maximum allowable design stress for INCOLOY alloy 800HT (UNS N08811) is higher than that for UNS N08810. Therefore, materials produced to UNS N08810 (800H alloy) cannot be certified as UNS N08811 unless they meet the additional requirements of that designation.

Power Generation Applications:
Steam Generators: Its resistance to high temperatures and corrosive environments makes it an ideal choice for steam generators.
Nuclear Reactor Components: The alloy's ability to withstand extreme conditions is crucial for certain components in nuclear power plants.
Heat Exchangers: Due to its thermal stability and resistance to corrosive fluids, it is widely used in heat exchangers.
Pressure Vessels: Its high strength and durability make it suitable for high-pressure applications in power systems.

Key Features and Benefits
High-Temperature Performance: Incoloy 800H maintains excellent strength and stability at temperatures well above 600°C (1112°F).
Corrosion Resistance: It offers excellent resistance to all forms of corrosion, including oxidation and carburization, which are common challenges in high-temperature applications.
Creep and Rupture Strength: The controlled carbon content in 800H enhances high-temperature stability and improves creep and rupture strength compared to standard Alloy 800.
Stable Microstructure: Its stable austenitic microstructure ensures resistance to thermal cycling and stress-related corrosion.
Weldability: 800H alloy welds easily using common welding processes, without the need for matching filler metal.
