Hastelloy X is a nickel base alloy that possesses exceptional strength and oxidation resistance up to 2200°F. It has also been found to be exceptionally resistant to stress-corrosion cracking in petrochemical applications. The alloy has excellent forming and welding characteristics.
Hastelloy X is one of the most widely used nickel base superalloys for gas turbine engine components. This solid solution strengthened grade has good strength and excellent oxidation resistance to 2000°F. X alloy exhibits good ductility after prolonged exposure at temperatures of 1200, 1400, 1600°F (650, 760 and 870°C) for 16,000 hours.Alloy X has excellent resistance to reducing and carburizing atmospheres, making it suitable for furnace components. Due to its high molybdenum content, Alloy X may be subject to catastrophic oxidation at 2200°F.
Alloy X is welded by all common methods such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, shielded metal arc, electron beam and resistance welding. Use matching filler metal, keep interpass temperature low. After severe forming, fabrications may be annealed 2150°F, 15 minutes per 1/8″ of thickness, rapid air cool.

Wrought forms of HASTELLOY X alloy are furnished in the solution heat-treated condition unless otherwise specified. X alloy is typically solution heat-treated at 2150°F (1177°C) and rapid cooled. Bright annealed products are cooled in hydrogen. Annealing at temperatures lower than the solution heat- treating may cause precipitation of secondary phases, which may affect the alloy's strength and ductility.
