However, when working with woven wire mesh, you'll typically come across 304 or 316 stainless steel.

What is the difference between Hastelloy C22 and stainless steel?
When comparing Hastelloy C22 to stainless steel, the most notable difference is how the two materials react at high temperatures.

Hastelloy C22 has a relatively high resistance to oxidation at high temperatures. This is a noteworthy property because stainless steel is susceptible to high-temperature oxidation, which can cause surface discoloration.

As a result, Hastelloy C22 has slightly higher corrosion resistance than stainless steel. This is particularly noticeable in terms of resistance to pitting and other similar forms of corrosion.

For this reason, engineers should be aware that Hastelloy C22 is more expensive than stainless steel.

Which alloy should I use?
When designing the perfect metal mesh, you should choose the right alloy based on its application scenario. As mentioned above, Hastelloy C22 is generally more expensive than stainless steel.

Therefore, Hastelloy C22 is often used in applications where the metal mesh needs to withstand harsh environments, such as extreme temperatures or particularly corrosive environments.

Fortunately, the two stainless steel variations used for woven metal mesh can be used in non-harsh environments.

That said, if the metal mesh needs to withstand potentially corrosive materials, or you require a metal mesh with greater stability and durability, then 316 stainless steel is a better choice. However, if your operation is simple, you use non-corrosive materials, and you are only looking for the precision that metal mesh provides, then 304 stainless steel is a more practical solution.
