What are the differences between Inconel 600 and 718 alloys?

What are the differences between Inconel 600 and 718 alloys?
The main differences between Inconel 600 and 718 lie in their strength and composition. Inconel 718, due to the addition of niobium and molybdenum, exhibits significantly improved strength through precipitation strengthening. In contrast, Inconel 600 is a solid solution-strengthened alloy, enhancing its strength through cold working, and possesses good oxidation and corrosion resistance. Inconel 718 is primarily used in high-strength applications such as aerospace and gas turbines, while Inconel 600 is commonly used in chemical processing and furnace components.
What are the uses of Inconel 600?
It is used in the manufacture of tempering furnaces, muffle furnaces, roller hearth furnaces, and other furnace components, as well as heat treatment baskets and trays. In the aerospace industry, Inconel 600 alloy is used to manufacture various engine and fuselage components that must withstand high temperatures, such as wiring harnesses, exhaust bushings, and turbine seals.

Difference Between Inconel 600 and 718
Inconel 600
Inconel 600, also known as Nicrofer 716, Pyromet Alloy 600, and Nicrimphy 600, is a nickel-chromium alloy with excellent oxidation resistance and high-temperature corrosion resistance. Due to its high nickel content, Inconel 600 exhibits strong resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking. Inconel 600 requires no aging hardening treatment and can be hardened and strengthened through cold working alone. Inconel 600 can operate in a temperature range from low temperatures to 700°F (370°C).

Inconel 718
Inconel 718 is a precipitation-hardening nickel-based alloy designed to exhibit extremely high yield strength, tensile strength, and creep rupture strength at temperatures up to 1300°F (700°C). Inconel 718 exhibits a slow age-hardening response, thus avoiding spontaneous hardening during heating and cooling, allowing for annealing and welding.
