ASTM B163 Nickel Alloy UNS N08825 Welded Seamless Pipe

ASTM B163 specifies Alloy 825 (UNS N08825) seamless tubing. Alloy 825 tubing is a nickel-iron-chromium alloy known for its excellent resistance to reducing and oxidizing acids, chloride-ion stress corrosion cracking, and pitting corrosion. This standard applies to seamless tubing used in heat exchangers, condensers, and other chemical processing applications requiring resistance to sulfuric and phosphoric acid corrosion.

What is the difference between UNS N06625 and UNS N08825?

Inconel 625 vs. Incoloy 825 (UNS N06625 vs. UNS N08825)
The primary difference between the two materials is their nickel content. Inconel 625 contains at least 58% nickel, while Incoloy 825 has a nickel content between 38% and 46%. This makes 625 more expensive.

Key Characteristics of ASTM B163 UNS N08825 Pipe
Material: Nickel-iron-chromium alloy of the UNS N08825 designation, commonly known as Incoloy 825.
Shape: This standard specifically covers seamless pipe, not welded pipe.
Corrosion Resistance: The alloy's composition provides excellent corrosion resistance in a wide range of conditions, including:
Oxidizing and reducing acids
Chloride ion stress corrosion cracking
Pitting and crevice corrosion
Sulfuric and phosphoric acid

Applications:
Commonly used in:
Chemical processing
Heat exchangers and condensers
Nuclear fuel reprocessing and radioactive waste disposal
Oil and gas recovery
Mechanical Properties
Annealed Condition:
Typical minimum tensile strength in the annealed condition is 58 ksi (586 MPa) and minimum yield strength is 35 ksi (241 MPa).
High-Temperature Properties:
The alloy maintains good mechanical properties both at room temperature and at elevated temperatures (approximately 1020°F), making it suitable for pressure vessels with wall temperatures up to 800°F.
