5083 aluminum alloy is an aluminum-magnesium alloy containing magnesium and trace amounts of manganese and chromium. It is highly resistant to attack by seawater and industrial chemicals.
5083 alloy retains excellent strength after welding. It has the highest strength among non-heat treatable alloys, with an ultimate tensile strength of 317 MPa or 46,000 psi and a tensile yield strength of 228 MPa or 33,000 psi. Not recommended for use at temperatures above 65 °C. [2] Alloy 5083 is also commonly used in cryogenic applications due to its ability to cool to -195°C. At this temperature, the alloy has a 40% increase in ultimate tensile strength, a 10% increase in yield strength, and exhibits excellent fracture toughness at this temperature
