Nimonic 263 is an age-hardenable nickel-cobalt-chrome-molybdenum alloy which was designed to have excellent fabrication characteristics in the annealed condition but also very good aged strength properties. Alloy 263 is easier to form or weld than other materials such as Waspaloy or Rene 41 and exhibits excellent intermediate temperature ductility.
Alloy 263 is strength at elevated temperature is not quite as high as materials such as HAYNES 282 alloy, Waspaloy alloy, or R-41 alloy. However, it is much easier to form or weld than Waspaloy alloy and R-41 alloy. Because HAYNES 282 alloy exhibits superior tensile, creep-rupture, and low cycle fatigue strength than HAYNES 263 alloy and has significantly greater fabricability than Waspaloy and R-41 alloys, it is replacing HAYNES 263 alloy in many applications. HAYNES 263 alloy is normally used for applications up to about 1650°F (900°C). Its oxidation resistance is comparable to that for other gamma-prime-strengthened superalloys. Alloy 263 can be welded using matching composition filler wire in both TIG and MIG forms

Nimonic 263 Heat Treatment
Alloy 263 is typically heat treated in two stages–solution treatment followed by an age hardening prior to service/fabrication.
Hot-Rolled sheet is normally given a solution treatment of 2100°F(1150°C), ½hr, water quenched or air cooled, followed by an aging of 1470°F(800°C), 8hrs, air cooled.
Cold-Rolled sheet and cold-drawn section(including tube) are given a solution treatment of 2100°F(1150°C), 3-10 minutes, FBQ or WQ, and then aged at 1470°F(800°C), 8hrs, AC.
Extruded/forged bars and section for forging or machining are usually solution treated at 2100°F(1150°C),1½-2½hrs, WQ, followed by an aging treatment of 1470°F(800°C), 8hrs, AC.
